I made a purchase item with vanilla gift card at a department store..the item needs to be returned at department store can the credit for that item be submitted back to the vanilla card that was used for the item

i tried to use it. purchase put on hold.

when i checked the balance it was zero. .It showed a purchased for the total balance 3 days before i activated the card. customer service put me on hold twice for over 30min then disconnected the call. they must know what cards were hacked.
